Volunteer

Digital Opportunities:

You can design graphics that will be posted on the Hearts of Tomorrow IG (@heartsoftmrw) that work to inform people of simple facts regarding heart health, our mission, our opportunities, and/or simple heart healthy lifestyle implementations!

Quick hours reference key:

1 post = 1 hour

Crafts Opportunities:

As a volunteer, you will design handmade cards, posters, and/or containing heart-healthy lifestyle reminders and information regarding Hearts of Tomorrow's mission. You do not need to deliver the crafts to any center, but if you do you will receive an additional hour of service (clarify whether or not you delivered on the form listed below!)

What to write & how-to:

- You can use fun colors and designs for your activity of choice!

- For small cards of heart-health reminders, feel free to make heart-shaped cutouts!

- Heart-healthy reminders: we recommend looking to the American Hearts Association for the most accurate information to display on your cards and posters. It is important that the information you select is valid, as misinformation can harm lives. Example: teach how much water people should be drinking a day, how to prevent strokes, dietary choices best suited for avoiding heart disease, convenient daily lifestyle changes, etc.

- If you want to design a poster, the same guidelines apply, but you may also include information about Hearts of Tomorrow's mission and social media pages to further spread our message!

- Before delivering your crafts, send an email or reach out to the center you intend on delivering to, letting them know that you are volunteering for Hearts of Tomorrow.

Example: "Hello, I'm a volunteer for Hearts of Tomorrow, a youth-led nonprofit organization that empowers youth like myself to design handmade crafts dedicated to delivering heart-healthy reminders to our community. I was wondering if your center is able to accept my handmade card donation. Let me know if you have any additional questions regarding my delivery, I would love to help make our community a heart-healthy space.

Best,

[your name]"

- You can deliver your crafts to local community centers, such as:

1. Nearby libraries

2. Hospitals

3. Care centers

4. Schools

5. And any other community center that will accept them!

- Ensure your cards/posters are packaged appropriately, along with a note attached with your information and that you are a volunteer for Hearts of Tomorrow.

- After completing your crafts, it is important that you fill out and submit the Service Hours Form in order for your work to be validated.

Quick hours reference key:

3 Cards/letters = 1 hour

1 Poster = 1 hour

Donation Drives Opportunities:

You can also host donation drives to raise heart-healthy goods: low-sodium canned goods, low to no-sugar canned goods, bottled water/electrolyte drinks.

- You may NOT accept money, this must be a non-monetary event.

Places to deliver raised goods:

- Food banks

- Hospitals

- Construction sites

- And any other community center that will accept them!

- Before delivering your goods, send an email or reach out to the center you intend on donating to, letting them know that you are volunteering for Hearts of Tomorrow.

Example: "Hello, I'm a volunteer for Hearts of Tomorrow, a youth-led nonprofit organization that empowers youth like myself to use crafts and heart-healthy goods drives to support community members struggling with or at risk for heart disease and strokes. I recently held a donation drive and collected [include details of goods] and was wondering if your center is able to accept my donations, along with any information I should know regarding possible delivery.

Thank you for your time,

[your name]"

- After hosting your drive and collecting goods, it is important that you fill out and submit the Service Hours Form in order for your work to be validated. You should also list the place(s) you delivered these goods to after the event.

For community service hours in hosting a goods drive, hours granted may vary–you must custom list the hours you completed on the Service Hours Form.
